With an acronym of "HM," which stands for "His Majesty," the bar has been set high for quality for this scotch whiskey. Living up to that challenge can be an exacting process, but it's one that HM the King delivers on, making it a blended offering to savor. The first inkling of such quality comes with the aroma, where clove and vanilla converge with a dash of peat that offers a mellow beginning. Also making an appearance is leather, though the approach comes in a subtle manner that doesn't disturb the comforting embrace that first welcomes the sampler. Once the palate is addressed, hints of honey and toffee emerge that wrap themselves in a floral bouquet of taste that allows just the proper touch of sweetness to make an appearance. This is the type of Scotch that works best as a neat offering that's had time to breathe.
