Whiskey must be aged a minimum of three years for it to legally be called Scotch. At Chivas Regal, whose Strathisla distillery is the oldest in the Scottish highlands, all of their chosen barrels of whiskey are carefully aged for a minimum of twelve years. The task of the Master Blender is to then select which of these mature whiskeys, that when combined, will yield the most indulgent, satisfying spirit that not only honors its heritage, but at the same time, creates a harmony of substance and style; all, with a contemporary twist. This twelve-year-old blend's nose presents with a fragrant synthesis of heather, honey, wild herbs, and sun-ripened, orchard fruits. The tasting notes are predominately rich and fruity, exploding with the aroma of juicy, honey-sweet apples, butterscotch, hazelnut, and a touch of vanilla. The finish tops off the experience by lingering satisfyingly in the mouth.
