Showing off a clear appearance that's the result of an extensive filtering process, Shellback Spiced Rum is a Barbados-made rum that begins its journey in used bourbon barrels. That aging process takes at least one year, but the result is worth that wait. The combination of vanilla and spice are the aromas that develop first, with that vanilla also coming through once it reaches the palate. The molasses base is there as well, though no sugar is added. Meanwhile, the dozen exotic spices that first gained attention via the nose come rushing through, which brings about a convergence of honey and cinnamon wrapped up in caramel. This combines with a fruity texture that dabbles in pineapple to form a smooth-tasting effort. This rum is a versatile one that works well on the rocks, sipped neat or used in traditional form with Coke. In addition, it's price-friendly for the consumer.
