A moderately priced spirit distilled in St. Croix, Cruzan No. 9 Spiced Rum is a refreshing alternative to mainstays like Captain Morgan. This 80 proof concoction boasts nine complementary spices that are perfectly balanced to deliver a unique flavor bouquet. The net effect is a robust but smooth rum that's not overpowering. Thanks to the inclusion of allspice, clove, cinnamon, ginger, juniper, pepper, mace, nutmeg and vanilla, No. 9 has a fairly complex flavor profile. While one can easily detect notes of vanilla and caramel, it's the less common flavors that distinguish themselves. Cinnamon and nutmeg in particular stand out from the crowd. Winner of the Silver Medal at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Cruzan No. 9 is a golden mahogany rum whose star is on the rise. While it's a good standalone sipping rum, it works especially well in mixed drinks thanks to its idiosyncratic and pungent taste profile.
