Despite being one of the newest Silver Rums around, the Spirit of Texas Straight offers twist that's rarely seen in this select category. The ever-present molasses is aged with pecans before being filtered to officially label it a silver rum. This type of bold statement should be expected from an independent distillery that's captured awards since it arrived on the scene in 2010. Perhaps appropriately, this silver rum took home a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012. Not surprisingly, the pecans are in evidence when the aroma makes its way around, but the sweetness doesn't disappoint when it finally reaches the palate, with some orange and a healthy supply of butterscotch along for the ride. The can-do approach that serves as the hallmark of the three founders approach to exploring new avenues is evidenced by two homemade stills that manage to produce this award-winning effort.
