Don Q distinguishes itself from other clear rums in that it uses a system of multiple distillation, resulting in a cleaner, smoother, more subtly flavored palate. The aging process of a year and a half to five years further adds to its smoothness, making Cristal smooth enough to be able to be substituted in a vodka drink with little notable difference. Their light rum's most elevated flavor palate is one of subtle touches of oak floral fragrances combined with touches of sweet brown sugar. In contrast, their darker, aged rums strive for a more complicated richness with the creation of caramel, vanilla and butterscotch aromas predominating over touches of cinnamon, nutmeg and oak.
