Yet another award-winning gin, El Dorado 5 is distilled from bourbon oak barrels that have developed the delicate taste it's known for, coming after an aging process of at least five years. The pleasure centers of the nose and brain receive the first benefit with this amber-colored delight, beginning with an aroma suggesting butterscotch and caramel amid tropical fruit and molasses or brown sugar. Not to be left out, the oak has left a lasting impression, while cinnamon also finds a way toward detection. Caramel stays around to tempt the palate, but is joined soon by short samples of fruit, vanilla and coconut that's been lovingly seared to perfection. The finish is one dances around from robust to bitter before settling on a sweet toffee-like offering that gives off an air of the Carribean. This is a drink to be savored while sipping in the comfort of one's home.
