Upon first inspection Ron Barcelo's Imperial Rum from the Dominican Republic appears coppery with rich shades of amber. In the light it presents with a brilliant, crystalline bronze color. The flavor immediately strikes one as warm, balanced, and open. As with other Spanish style rums the bouquet has a pronounced fruity scent. The inviting aroma of tropical fruit merges with the comforting undercurrents of wood, raisins, pineapple and walnuts as it hits the palate. Those round tones balance well with hints of vanilla and molasses, giving the body a dry, lush, but fruity finish that fades very slowly. The pleasing aftertaste, which calls to mind mocha and cola nut, lingers with a soft note that lends itself to repeat sipping. Most prefer Ron Barcelo's Imperial Rum alone or on ice in order to appreciate the warm welcoming flavor.
