One of the newer offerings within the Cruzan family of Rums, this offering has been around for nearly five years, bringing with it a two-stage aging process that helps create quality Rum. That aging lasts anywhere from four to 12 years and takes place in used bourbon or whiskey barrels. Once that time period has ended, charred oak barrels are the next stop for this product, a time frame of between six to nine additional months. That additional time helps bring out the oak and smoke-flavored appeal of each drink, a process that has some comparing it to Cognac. Despite its dark look, the taste is light and smooth, offering a standard combination of vanilla, fruit and toffee. One unique aspect of this offering is that no two bottles of Single Barrel Rum will be the same, due to the simple fact that it's not re-blended, but simply aged more.
