Vizcaya VXOP's warm, inviting aromas are due to its smoky, warm spiciness. The quintessential sipping rum, it is distilled in the Dominican Republic using traditional methods dating back to nineteenth century Cuba. Only the freshest juices pressed from the finest cane sugar are used in the small batch distilling process, before it is allowed to age in individually selected solid oak barrels that once housed bourbon. This "methode agricole" method of distillation infuses this spirit with its warm, buttery feel and mahogany hue, as well as the sublime flavors of caramel, butterscotch, honey and spice. The initial sampling provides the well-rounded, yet harmonious sweetness of butterscotch and maple. The subsequent flavors of clove, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon are soon followed by hints of tropical fruit. Its finish combines all of these taste experiences, culminating in a satisfyingly harmonious effect. It is best enjoyed either by itself, or on the rocks.
