As another traditionally-brewed gin, Diep 9 Young Grain Genever takes great pains to make sure that this Belgian product is double distilled according to the original techniques of two centuries ago. Doing it in this fashion means that each 52-gallon batch that's created in a copper pot will contain the proper amounts of malted barley, rye and wheat. In addition, it adheres to the use of 15 percent malt wine grain mash, which allows for not only a smooth, delicate taste every time, but a finish that's to be savored. The Diep 9 designation is to acknowledge the nine botanicals that help forge this quality effort: thistle, orange peel, nutmeg, angelica root, guinea pepper, carob, cinnamon, coriander and juniper, of course. Many of those aromas come through, as does vanilla, while the taste has been likened to spice bread. Perfect for drinking straight or as an addition to a cocktail.
