Unlike most gins, Citadelle Reserve Gin is barrel aged. Returning to 100 year old market roots, Citadelle Reserve Gin contains 19 distilled botanicals. After distillation, the Reserve Gin stays in a seasoned French oak barrel for months before bottling. This is rare today but was common in gin distillation a century ago. The well rounded gin has notes of wood, due to aging, vanilla and juniper. This extremely unique gin is less flower and citrus forward due to the oak aging. The barrel aging makes for a soft, round spirit rather than a robust one. Though 19 botanicals are used, the botanicals are meant to enhance the classic elements of the gin. Sticking to a similar method and recipe, a Reserve Gin has been released every year since 2008. For 2013's Reserve Gin, the Solera aging technique, where gin is aged in various American barrels and blended over the course of months, will be used.
