Imported from Holland, Bols Barrel Aged Genever Gin is one of the few genever-style gins that can be found in the United States. This one is a lovely rarity, being aged as it is for 18 months in Limousin Oak before it is bottled. When this genever is initially poured, it is very clear with a lovely soft gold color. It is a bit on the thick side, but this works quite well for a spirit that has this kind of flavor. Many people upon trying the Bols Barrel Aged Genever Gin find that it has a rather malty flavor to it. After the malt flavor fades, it leaves behind the aromatic flavors of licorice and cardamom. Juniper is of course present, but it is comparatively faint. below that lies sweet flavors that include citrus and vanilla. Overall, this gin is impressive for its fresh taste and its clean, very smooth finish.
