Cognac, France was forever changed when Richard Hennessy and his partners established the House of Hennessy. With most of his market in his homeland of Ireland, and parts of England, he quickly crafted a strong and popular business exporting brandies. Only the finest Ugni Blanc grapes are used to distill the Hennessy cognacs that have been a staple of France for generations. They only harvest their grapes from the unique part of the Cognac region around the River Charente, giving a quality of superior excellence. Cognac reached a turning point in 1870 thanks to Maurice Hennessy when he crafted XO Cognac for his inner circle of friends. The new style that exemplified a bolder, complicated flavor with a richness far beyond any cognac before it ushered in a new era in the art of crafting cognac. Deep amber hued and radiating strength, the flavors of light spice and sweet fruit produce a harmony that marks the true brilliance of this blended cognac.
