D'USSÉ VSOP fits the bill as a genuine VSOP cognac in that it has been aged for at least 4 1/2 years and heralds from the Cognac region of France. Relatively new on the scene, D'USSÉ has quickly become a favorite among the young elite for its smoothness, especially on the rocks or as a mixer. Whiskey lovers looking for a cognac to enjoy will likely appreciate this as a change of pace. This VSOP is not a cognac that will bowl you over with its complexity of flavor like the longer-aged D'USSÉ XO, but there are pronounced notes of honey, almond blossoms and cinnamon. Its finish is one of dried fruits with little aftertaste. Produced at the prestigious 200-year-old Chateau de Cognac in France and aged in oak casks, this medium-alcohol-content cognac is rated at 80 proof and sells for around $50 per 750 mL bottle.
